fall, fall at elysian

WRITING from elysian’s old days

Our dear friends at Clockshop, in recognition of my years of service sporadically making delicious staff lunches and woefully undercharging to cook for their various fundraisers, are publishing a slender but poignant volume of little gems from elysian’s old PR emails. Everything Is All Very Nice is available for ordering HERE. The book is also available as part of the price of the ticket for a little launch party on Saturday, September 21 from 3 to 5 pm at Clockshop. You will be delighted with some snacks and drinks, a bongo-free reading of 2 or 3 poetic selections, and a brief Q and A with you, me and Evan Kleiman, who wrote a generous introduction to the book.

September 21 tickets are available HERE.

COOKING at elysian

Also happening, if you want to make it happen: come cook dinner at elysian under the thoughtful, skillful and acidic guidance of me, who will plan the menu, the instruction, and do the shopping plus some of the heavier advance prep if there is any. We will make 3 or 4 dishes together, cook them, eat them, and clean up after ourselves. All you bring is your own wine, and if you have a knife you like to use, your knife. The cost is $100/per person. The first session is Tuesday, September 24.

extra casual din din

Then, more: me and Jonathan Baltazar, my culinary spirit guide and a fabulous cooker person, will be offering a few multi-course small plate dinners for 8 to 10 lucky and flush guests. The first of these is September 25—a super-casual meal at elysian, with a menu that might flow effortlessly along these lines:

biscuit, leek jam, togarashi
gems, fennel, persimmon caesar
linguine, preserved lemon, garlic, chile, bottarga
miso-roasted kubocha, savoy cabbage, saffron tomato, walnut
hanger steak, sherried cippoline onion, mizuna
pear + blackberry upsidedown cake

Service is from 7 to 9:30-ish, slow, with no frippery, just good food and extra-special attention, at the reasonable though still underwhelming cost of $125 per person. BYO.
